The Team

Chris Hocking (The Tech Guy)

On the Set of "More Than Beautiful"

Despite his very young face, Chris has been working in the entertainment industry for well over a decade, beginning his career in the Animatronics Department of a BBC Live Kids Show. After two Australian tours, and three UK tours, he moved into lighting design for live productions – a job that has taken him around the globe – lighting circus’s in Taiwan, Casino’s in South Africa and Google Launches in New Zealand.

Chris has a great love of all things technical – and after completing a bachelor of Film & Television at Swinburne University, he went on to work on a huge range of independent feature films, video clips, short films and television programs in various technical roles, from sound recordist, to gaffer, to editor. He currently looks after all things technical at LateNite Films – ensuring that each production makes the use of the best and more current technology and workflows.

On top of his LateNite duties, Chris also works as the Post Production Supervisor at Melbourne’s award winning editing house The Butchery, and their sister company The Refinery – as well as lecturing Post Production classes occasionally at Swinburne University.

Nicholas Colla (The Creative Genius)

On Location for "The Script Machine"

Nick has been working in the Film & Television industry now for over 15 years, having first worked professionally as an actor at the age of 8. Since that time he has worked extensively in network television with roles in children’s shows Driven’ Crazy, The Saddle Club, Wicked Science and the multi award winning Holly’s Heroes. He has also appeared in network dramas such as Neighbours, Blue Heelers, The Nation and City Homicide.

Whilst building his career as an actor, Nick completed a Bachelor of Film & Television at Swinburne University, his attention particularly focused on writing and directing.

Nick is a passionate filmmaker whose love of films spans across all genres. He is constantly inspired by filmmakers who have forged a career through relentlessly pursuing the impossible.

Jacqui Hocking (The Doco Girl)

On Location for "TOPtoTOP"

Jacqui is a Documentary Editor and Filmmaker based in Melbourne, Australia. Her goal is to support and collaborate with inspiring Documentary Film-makers and NGO / Non-Profit organisations globally to create important content.

She also aims to support others in the industry to adapt to the changing landscape of online content, and is ridiculously passionate about cross-platform distribution and social media collaboration. Currently she is loving the innovative ideas at RunWay Digital and distributing through the FairFax Digital Network.

Jacqui always finds inspiring stories – and has filmed and edited all over the world – including Indonesia, Singapore, India, Nepal, Switzerland, Cambodia, Australia, Vietnam and her favourite place of all, Timor Leste! She is the official Global film-maker of TOPtoTOP.org and GoneAdventurin.com.

Although not always easy to get in touch with – she is always happy to hear from like-minded people from around the world. Her answer to most questions is: ALWAYS POSSIBLE!

Michael Shanks (The Crazy One)

Insert Bad NZ Humour Here

The first video content Michael created was in his final week of Year 12, where running around the streets of Altona with a Sony Handicam seemed more important than studying. That video went on to win the 2008 Escapist Film Festival, beginning Michaels 18 months of nonstop production on successful web-series Doomsday Arcade.

Working on every capacity of that series – working as Director, Writer, Editor, Actor, Sound dude, Composer and Visual Effects guy – educated Michael about his passion as he bluffed his way through his job pretending to have Talent.

Nowadays, Michael distracts himself from his hopeless loneliness and crippling impotence by dabbling in Writing, Directing and Visual Effects.

Alistair Marks (The Jack of All Trades)

"It's just an Apple"

Film and entertainment is in Alistair’s blood. All his life he has been entertaining, whether it be on stage at school, on the screen at Swinburne Film School or in the studio at 16th Street Actors Studio. After a few years cutting his teeth in the entertainment world at various institutions, Alistair went onto complete a Bachelor of Film & TV at Swinburne University.

In his final 18 months of the course, he was taken under the wing of genre film extraordinaire, Richard Franklin (Road Games, Psycho 2, Hotel Sorrento). Richard mentored Alistair and really instilled a belief in him as a writer and director. His final year project was the opening 15 minutes of a feature that he had been writing called SHOTGUN! which starred Steve Bisley, Samuel Johnson, Rachel Ward & Simon Lyndon. Alistair went onto win Best International Comedy Short & Best International Director of a Short at the New York Independent Film Festival.

Since then he has been working on the feature length script of SHOTGUN!, sketch shows, docos and has been acting in between. Alistair is currently working very closely with iconic Australian actor Samuel Johnson on a documentary and event that is going to capture the imagination of the nation.

Hugh McMurrich (The Bearded One)

On the Set of "Hannah & The Hasbian"

Hugh is an incredible cinematographer, with a huge passion for everything in the camera department. When he’s not working on one of our films, he’s working in the Rental Department Videocraft, which has allowed him to develop a huge technical knowledge of all things camera and broadcast related. A has shot a number of our projects over the years – most recently a video clip for July Days and 2nd camera operator on Hannah & The Hasbian.
